There will be a major network maintenance that will occur within the 609 location. We will be upgrading our router to better handle the additional servers that were moved from 615 to 609. The router originally was not
designed to handle the additional 600+ server moved from 615 when the power outage occurred.
When will this occur?
The upgrade will take place 12/7/2013 at 12:00 PM PDT - 1:00 pm PDT with an estimate of 15 minute outage.
What to expect?
We will be powering down the router briefly to upgrade our distribution router at the 609 location for 15 minutes while we swap the line cards. The entire process should take no more than 15 minutes while the physical upgrade takes place. Once the upgrade occurs our team believe that the router can better handle the packet delivered to the core to this distribution router.
Why do we need to do this?
Although we can easily handle the 600+ servers that was moved from 615 to 609 the instability that are being randomly viewed by some customers. We take performance seriously where we want to deliver the best service possible. There are random attacks that occur that has cause ill performance in this location, which we need to address immediately.
Why such short notice?
We have been seeing some ill throughput the past few days since the migration. Our network engineer have been trying to mitigate some of this by establishing ACL along rate limitation to control CPU spikes seen on our distribution routers. We believe the situation may worsen as customers continue growing in this location along with higher bandwidth utilization is used while customer resume their normal operation.
